A signature event of the Mitchell Gallery

The Mitchell Gallery brings world-renowned art to the Mid-Atlantic region and serves as a center of learning for the visual arts in Anne Arundel County. Its recent accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) places the Mitchell Gallery among the top 4.5% of art museums in the United States. The Mitchell Gallery is the only state-of-the-art, secure and climate-controlled fine art museum in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

Less is More is a new juried exhibit featuring small works in the great space of the Mitchell Gallery. It is open to all artists over the age of 18 residing in the United States and Puerto Rico. All media are eligible, including fine jewelry, ceramics, and more. Features of the exhibition include:

  • Distinguished jurors
  • Cash prizes
  • Preview reception for artists, members, collectors, dealers and friends
  • Sales gallery during the exhibit

    Juror Joann G. Moser has been senior curator of Graphic Arts at the Smithsonian American Art Museum since 1986. Her research interests include 20th-century American prints and drawings, and American monotypes. She has served as a juror for numerous national and regional exhibitions.

    Juror Jack Rasmussen is the director and curator of the American University Museum at the Katzen Arts Center in Washington, DC. His several AU credentials include master's degrees in painting (1975), arts management (1983) and anthropology (1991), and a PhD in anthropological linguistics (1994). In addition he has taught painting, curatorial practice, and arts programming, and worked as the university's associate director of development from 1983 to 1987. He served as the executive director of the di Rosa Preserve: Art & Nature in Northern California, and from 1992 to 2002 he was the executive director of Maryland Art Place in Baltimore.
